Cascade Hills is a new church in the Salem area, a community of people living the adventure of following Jesus into a life that's all God intends. Every church has a history, and though we are quite new, we thought we'd give you a snapshot of where our people came from.
Beginnings
We began with a very small team in October of 2005, meeting in the far south of town at the Lee Elementary School. Our aim has been and continues to be to raise up a thriving church out of the people in the local neighborhoods, specifically those people who aren't the usual church-going types. We wanted to plant a church for a generation of people who feel out of touch with church and Christianity, meeting them where they are and helping them to discover and re-discover the Christian faith.
Nondenominational Church
Our church is non-denominational, which simply means that we have no official governing body that influences our practices, beliefs, or our staffing.
Restoration Heritage
Every church traces its roots to a particular theological heritage, and ours can be found in the Restoration Movement of churches, specifically churches of Christ. And while we may look a little different than other churches of Christ around the country, we value our connection with these churches and the heritage of faithful men and women they represent. Some of our "restoration distinctives" show up on our what we believe page and on the what to expect page.
A Church Planting Church
We are also associated with Kairos Church Planting, an organization that helps to support, equip, and train church planters. We plan on working with them in the future to continue the healthy practice of reproducing new churches in new places for new people.
A Partner Church
Our church also values its partnership with the Southwest Church of Christ in Jonesboro, Arkansas, a church-planting church that helps support our staff to maintain a full-time ministry while our church grows toward self-sufficiency.
We also are grateful for the ongoing partnership of the Circle Church of Christ in Corvallis, Oregon.
In 2007, we were excited to send some of our ministry team to start the Soma Church of Christ across the river in West Salem. We value these partner churches and work alongside them in God's great work of restoring a broken world.
