Churches can be busy places with a lot of things
going on. We strive to be intentional in
making sure that we don't get caught up in busy-ness and leave
our purpose
and mission behind. We try to make sure that everything we
do is centered in the five important aspects of
our church:
The CALL: One of the tasks
God has left His church is the task of making known his
passionate desire to love us, be near us, and to adopt us
as his treasured sons and daughters. In
pursuit of this task, we
strive to speak
about and teach these things
in ways that people can understand (that is, with a
minimum of insider language
and jargon).
The COMMUNITY: Humans
are social creatures. We strive to be the kind of community that encourages, accepts, and builds
up one another. We welcome newcomers and those that are “just
looking,” reflecting God’s open arms to
all who would come to Him. We also strive to reflect
the diversity
of His creation, made up of different ages and cultures,
all learning to live together in peace. As a
church, we meet on Sundays to honor
and praise God as one unified people. During the week,
we meet in smaller groups in which understanding, faith,
and friendship flourish.
The ADVENTURE: The
kind of life to which God calls each one of us is a life
of adventure. Such a
life requires discipline, determination, and teamwork as
we follow Jesus Christ. The adventure
contains struggles and challenges, but the community is
always there to strengthen each other. The life
of following Jesus is an adventure with many peaks to seek out along
the way: a servant
heart, a life of integrity, a humble attitude, commitment
to the practice of spiritual disciplines, and much more.
The ENCOUNTER: We gather
together as a community to worship
our holy God. Our desire is that
in worship, the community will encounter
God and be changed; that is, the
hurting lifted up and encouraged, the immoral challenged,
the diligent empowered, and the faithful spurred
on.
The
IMPACT: Finally,
we strive to equip people to make a real difference
in a world that has lost hope. God gives talents and gifts
to each person with the intention that they be used to serve
others. From serving
the community
of faith to reaching out beyond it to the neighborhoods
around us, we will share God’s
love and care tangibly for
those who are in need. Our hope is that through
our impact, others can come to
recognize
the church as a place where love, peace and hope
are found.
These are the five aspects that make up who we are
. Along with our foundations, these five
things keep us focused on what we're supposed
to be doing. Even still, for a complete picture of what we're
like, read on to get a feel for our unique
personality as a church.
