The following represents the core
of what we teach at our church, all deriving from what God
has revealed about Himself through the Bible:
- We believe in God as three persons in one godhead
(the trinity) with God as Father, Jesus as His Son, and the
Holy Spirit as His
continuing presence among us. God is eternal, unchangeable,
creator and sustainer of heaven and earth.
- We believe that Jesus
Christ is fully God and was fully human (the incarnation),
living a life of perfect obedience to the
Father. This sinless life led to complete surrender upon the
cross to
enable humanity to have a restored relationship with God
in the present and eternal life with God forever.
- We believe
the Holy Spirit does the work of the Father and Son by teaching,
giving gifts, and transforming us back
into God’s
intended image for humanity. At the point of salvation,
the Spirit resides within each individual believer.
- We believe
that scripture is from the mind of God through human writers
and is our authoritative guide in all matters
of faith
and life.
- We believe that human beings are created in
the image of God so that we can have a personal relationship
with
him. This image
gives dignity and enables us to love, but also sets
us above and makes us responsible for the non-human
creation
around
us.
- We believe that a person begins the transforming
experience of salvation when they place their trust
in Jesus, confess
their sinfulness, turn away from an old lifestyle,
and are immersed
in water to have their sins washed away.
- We believe
in the unity of God’s church, and so, affirm
the necessity of living as a unified body of Christ’s
disciples that regularly puts aside selfish ambitions.
- We
believe that every follower of Christ is equipped
and empowered for evangelism and for
active living
as God’s person in
the world (the priesthood of all believers).
- We
believe that each local congregation is capable
and free to govern itself, and as such,
free to make
decisions regarding
non-essential matters of faith.
- We believe
in the weekly celebration of the Communion (the Lord’s
Supper), not simply as a matter of command, but as an opportunity
to participate in Jesus’ death, burial,
and resurrection on a weekly basis as a
community of faith.
- We believe that because
of God's gift
of salvation, we are being transformed
daily to
a better way
of living. This new life
in the Spirit blesses us and affects the
way we behave all day, every day. In pursuing
this new
life, we
follow God's
teaching,
Christ's example and the Holy Spirit's
leading.
